The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me

The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl will be this month's book club pick. We are meeting Monday, February 13 in the media center during lunch.

Meet Billy. He is a young boy who has big dreams! He wants to renovate an old shop into a candy store.

Meet the giraffe, the pelican and the monkey. They are three friends who set out to prove that they are the best ladderless window-cleaning company around!

Together they just might become friends and they just might find themselves a new job. Join Billy, the giraffe, the pelican and the monkey for a fantastic adventure you won't want to miss!

Happy Reading!

Ginger Pye by Eleanor Estes

Wow! What a great first discussion. School of Fear was an excellent book and really easy to relate to. Many of us would not want to be trapped in a small room, cross scary bridges or surround ourselves with creepy crawly bugs!

Our next book club pick is Ginger Pye by Eleanor Estes.

Ginger Pye is the smartest dog you'll ever know! Jerry Pye and his sister, Rachel, are the smartest humans for buying Ginger. It was the best dollar they ever spent. Ginger steals everybody's heart . . . until someone steals him! Where could he be? Who is the man in the mustard yellow hat? Will Jerry and Rachel ever find him?

Join us for this great NEWBERRY MEDAL WINNER and find out what happens to Ginger Pye!

The meeting will take place in the media center on Monday, December 12 during lunch. This date has changed because of our very special visit from author, Eric A. Kimmel. We have several copies and will try to hand them out as fast as we can. In the meantime, check out your local public library to see if they have a copy.

Welcome!

Hi everyone! Congratulations on starting the first 3rd grade book club at the Davis Academy! We are very excited to start reading with all of you. Here are a few things that you should know before we get started.

1. This is for fun; you do not have to join.
2. You have to read the book to join.
3. We will discuss the book together as a group, so it is best that you read the entire book.
4. It does not cost anything but you should let your parents know.
5. We meet once a month in the media center during lunch. The first day we meet will be Monday, October 24.
6. We provide dessert or a treat that ties in with the book; we usually make you guess so keep that in mind while you are reading.
7. This blog is for you! Comment on the book and share how you feel about the book with your book club friends.
8. You choose the book we read! Be prepared to vote on a book at the end of each meeting

We usually have 6-10 copies of the book in the media center. We will distribute the books we have and put the others on the waiting list. We strongly encourage you to go to the public library if you don’t get the book right away.

The first book is School of Fear by Gitty Daneshvari.

Four twelve-year-olds are sent to a school to overcome their fears--fear of bugs, water, confined spaces, peanut butter sticking to the roof of their mouth. When they get there, they realize the school is not quite what they thought it would be and they are the only ones there! It's being run by an ex-beauty queen and they're forced to smile and practice proper waving for hours on end! Will they ever overcome their fears? Will they ever escape? Join us and find out more!

If you have any questions, come see us in the media center.

Happy Reading!
